DAEI begins Phase II (2017-19) investigations

DAEI 2016 team proud of their work

We are happy to announce that the Danish Archaeological Expedition (DAEI) will begin its Phase II of archaeological investigations on the Rania Plain this autumn.

Our plans are to expand our recent investigations of early urbanism in the foothills of the Zagros Mountains with further landscape survey, site proofing, test trenches, environmental sampling and coring, and to open a new excavation area at the site of Girdi Gulak.

The team will include additional new members. As in the previous seasons, we will post weekly updates and photographs of the project’s work and results.

The 2017 autumn field season is possible due to the kind provision of funding and support by:

  • The Danish Institute in Damascus
  • Beckett Fonden
  • Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies, University of Copenhagen
  • National Museum of Denmark
